Gastonia, Mt. Holly, Belmont to enact water rules

Well, our green lawns in Hawthorne, Belle Meade, and Pinsto Forest will have to probably have to go brown now.

Gastonia and Mt. Holly have set mandatory water restrictions as of the beginning of next week. Belmont City Manager, Barry Webb, had told council a couple of weeks ago that Belmont would wait to see what Duke Power would say at the end of the month.  Since then, the situation has gotten worse, and mandatory restrictions were instituted today, August 28.

Just pray for some rain,  please…

Cool - Michael Johnson signs with Manchester City

_44082784_johnson203.jpg

Academy developed U-21 England player, Michael Johnson was signed to Manchester City. The youth are really beginning to make inroads in the English Premier level of competition.

In the US, 67 clubs have “signed-on” with the USSF (”federation”) Academy program. Two fairly local groups, North Meck Soccer Association and South Charlotte were among the clubs selected to field teams in U16 and U18 age groups. More on the Federation discussion by our friends over at the NC Soccer Forum.

Academy development is good — and bad, but when exciting young players come through as the UK has shown, it can be terribly exciting.

Well, Well, Well - Red Raider Football gets a nod from the Observer

football.jpg             The South Point Red Raider football team, 1-0 on the season after last Friday’s victory over Lincolnton, gets a slight nod from the Charlotte Observer today.

Good luck to the 2007 Red Raider team. New stadium seating, new scoreboard, new goal posts, and new fencing makes Lineberger stadium a great place to be on Friday Nights.

Lineberger Stadium

The concession stand food booths run by the Red Raider Booster Club are always packed with customers. We all look forward to the french fries, and when it gets cold — the hot chocolate.

The team plays away at Kings Mountain this coming Friday evening (August 31).

Check out the Announcements Page up at the HS.
