Kaley Rivera - 2008 Miss South Point

Cortner Auditorium at South Point High School was groovin’ to the 60’s sound of hit-making Motown last night as the community crowned Kaley Rivera Miss South Point 2008.

This year’s scholarship pageant theme taken from the Academy award-winning movie from last year, crowned a women’s soccer player and musically talented Kaley Rivera over twelve other equally talented young women.

Victoria VanDyke was selected as first runner-up, and Sierra Roberts was second runner-up. Emily Wallace was awarded Miss Congeniality. Sierra Roberts also sold the most advertising for the program for this year and was given the Spirit Award.

Each of the contestants were competing for up to $4,000 in scholarships for their further education past high school. 2007 Miss South Point, senior Lindsay Hawkins, crowned Kaley as the 2008 winner.

The crowded auditorium was entertained by math teacher and perennial event MC, David Grimes, and special guests, Miss Mount Holly, Katherine Southard, and 2007 Miss Ashbrook, Katie Beasley. South Point art teacher, Alyson Hall, was recognized for her dedicated leadership of the organizing committee and the set design of the event.

Contestants competed through interviews, talent, and modeled fashion wear and formal evening wear. Judges reviewed and made their selections on a number of established critieria. All of the contestants sang, danced, or played instruments.

Interesting Blogs

thinking-hats.gif

Our group of editors like to read other blogs for ideas, style, and interesting articles by other people.

Many blogs out there in the “world” can be really scary. We found one that has been very popular within the past month called, Stuff White People Like. Just putting the link here and not posting it to the blog roll is probably all we are willing to do right now.

Have you ever seen nine people try to push each other into the bushes? It’s not a pretty site, even with glasses of Pinot Grigrio, or Merlot in hand. It’s easier with a Budweiser though…

In our opinion it is a funny and thought-provoking cultural view. Any thoughts from ya’ll?
