This is old news for the soccer-friendly neighbors in Belmont.

Saturday, the SPHS boys left at 6:15 AM to travel to Henry Fork Park just outside of Hickory for pre-season scrimmages. 32 teams from around the western part of the state participated in 40-minute scrimmages.

South Point played TC Roberson, winning 2-1; the new Mallard Creek HS, beating them 4-1, and tied with East Mecklenburg, 1-1.

South Point, along with TCR, Charlotte Catholic, defending state champ Lake Norman, Forestview, and South Meck appear to be the strength of the western NC region (3A) for this fall.
