South Point Footies Wins on Senior Night(Updated with video)

South Point held their Senior Night for the Soccer team on Monday night, and won the match 9-1 over North Gaston.

Our reporters at the game could only tell us that Haskins scored, Crane scored, Reese scored, Avery scored, Ryan Anderson scored, someone else scored, and Martin scored. Those are our only details. Drew Stewart once again scored for NG.

So much for our reporters this evening. If Avery and Reese scored, that would give them their first goals of the season.

It was senior night and all the boys were introduced along with their parents. Former coach Sam Pruitt, now the athletic director at the Middle School was in attendance.

Special thanks to reader, S P Fan, for the video.

The last regular season match will be held at Crest HS on Wednesday evening. The JV’s kick off at 5:30 and the varsity about 7:10 PM.

It appears that Erwin Clyde will be the first round State Playoff opponent for the Red Raiders. Clyde lost to TC Roberson in the Mountain Athletic Conference action on Monday night, 4-1. Forestview won their match against Hunter Huss, clinching the Big South Conference title and earning the first seed from the conference.

If the Raiders beat Clyde on Wednesday, October 31, the most likely opponent will be Charlotte Catholic, who will play lightly regarded Eastern Randolph in the first round. The second round match will be held at Charlotte Catholic, on Saturday, November 3.

South Point should beat Erwin Clyde easily in the first round, but with no self-discipline which the SP soccer team lacks greatly they do not have a chance against a well coached Charlotte Catholic program. South Point has a lot of talent, but their seems to be no accountability from the coaches on how these boys act when on the field. SP will exit the second round of the playoffs. Get some coaches and things might be different.

This team only lost Two games and has been up against some very talented very well coached teams .They have the talent, experience, and discipline to win and have proved it. I hope they play their best yet in the playoffs. This team lost their coach and two games. They have done exceptional. South Point has been very well represented this year by the players on and off the soccer field. This has been proudly the best team south point has ever had and good things will continue to happen in the playoffs
