Belmont Middle School Girls Softball Team in Finals

Dwight Frady Field (Crescent Park), corners of Church Street, 6th Street and East Catawba Street is the setting of the final middle school softball match for the Gaston County Championship, on Tuesday, October 30, 4:15 PM.

Belmont will be playing Chavis MS of Cherryville for the title.

Belmont 7, Grier 2 — In the semifinals of the Gaston County Softball Championship, the defending champion Wildcats were led by Sarah Abernathy’s two hits and Emily Tucker’s three-hitter on the mound while striking out nine.Grier was paced by Maile Sugfried with two hits. Grier finishes the year at 7-4 while Belmont (10-1) advances to the championship match Thursday at 4:15 p.m. at Frady Field to face Chavis.

Chavis 11, Mount Holly 0 — Taylor Laskey went 2-for-2, Ashley Nicholson had three hits. and Jenna Alexander stood out defensively for Chavis (9-2). Leah Sturgill picked up the win, allowing only one hit and striking out four Hawks.
