South Point Helps North Gaston to a Blue Tuesday

38-35 was the final score last night, with South Point prevailing on a crisp fall evening. The stadium was absolutely packed — on a school night even!

All the “no comment” remarks and “focus” by North Gaston over the past two weeks came up short as the Red Raiders laid down some wood on Princeton Brooks and AJ Blue.

South Point led 17-14 at half and was up 31-14 with 8:30 left in the game.

Aaron Crumbly played great. He rushed for almost 200 yards and scored three touchdowns. Who knew that Desmond Lowery could throw as well as he did last evening. He made 7 of 9 passes, with several of them shocking the North Gaston defense out of their boots.

North Gaston players appeared to lose it emotionally with several players yelling at each other — and at coaches — and not words of encouragement.

Credit is given to Blue and Brooks for keeping the game close by score at the end. The two tremendously talented players kept the South Point defense on their toes.

In the end, South Point earned a share of the big South title, their first since the 2004 season. More importantly, the Raiders earned the first seed out of the conference for the state 3A playoffs.
